Spring Giveaway!

***CLOSED*** Congrats to Stacy for wooing the children with your lovely book description!

Since I scored a great compendium of the Brambly Hedge books, I am giving away my own copy of Spring Story (in excellent, used condition). And I'm no fan of randomly generated winners so all you have to do is leave a comment telling me what your very favorite book was as a child and why. To keep my biases with friends from showing the answer my children like best wins! You have a week (until Easter Tuesday: April 10th) to enter.

Happy Spring!

  1. Ooh, how to pick just one? I can't remember which ones I called my favorites at the time, but the first one that came to mind is

'Amos: The Story of an Old Dog and His Couch,' by Susan Seligson. It's a great light-hearted adventure.

Although, sometimes I judge books by how much they stick with me years later, so by that measure I'd have to pick 'The Wreck of the Zephyr,' by Chris Van Allsburg. The story is wonderful, and the pictures are rich and haunting. I'm reminded of it regularly.

Can't wait to see what others say!

  2. As you know, I wasn't much of a book worm as a kid. I would rather ride bikes and climb trees! But I did have a few favorite books that I would read over and over.

My favorite and most memorable was Socks for Supper by Jack Kent. I would even feast on cheese and crackers while I read this book just so I could be more connected to the characters!

  3. My first 6 years of life I was cared for by a very nice British lady who to this day is like a grandmother to me. She used to bring me books back from England, most of them by author Enid Blyton. The best one was "The Magic Faraway Tree". A group of children had to move out to the country (either due to war or illness in the family, I don't remember the exact reason) but upon exploring the wood (where the trees seemed to be whispering to each other) they came upon the biggest tree in the middle of the forest, with a massive trunk spiraling all the way up into the clouds. It was a home to all kinds of interesting creatures, pixies, a man named moon face, the saucepan man always clanking and clanging, and the washer woman who occasionally tossed out her dirty washing water, drenching anyone who might be below. The most interesting part of the tree, however, was the top, which went up through the clouds. As the clouds blew by they brought all kinds of exotic lands along with them and you never knew what land it might be. Toy land, or giant land, or the land of everything good to eat. I couldn't get enough of the adventures of the children and their funny tree-inhabiting friends in all these magical lands at the top of the magic faraway tree.

  4. My favorite was Where did the Baby go? http://www.amazon.com/Where-Baby-Little-Golden-Book/dp/0307020932

A little girl finds a picture of a baby and wonders where she is. She finds out she is the little baby girl... so great!
